There are millions of websites online, so what can we do to stand tall among the best? The good news is that there is only one you. Therefore, the best way to stand out online, is to be you. Why? Because there is only one of you, and who can show that best? Only YOU!
1. Create a Detailed Profile
Do not leave out any information on your About page, or in your profiles on social media. Don’t make each profile an exact replica, but you do want to use every single bit of information, in order to create a profile that stands out. Keep your target audience in mind as you put your best foot forward. Why? Because even though it is about you, it is really about them.
2. Get a Professional Profile Picture
It does not cost a lot to have a professional photo shoot done, even if you do it four times a year. That way you show images that are appropriate and up-to-date. You can also create memes with the images, if you get a variety of shots. Seek out photography students, who need experience to build their portfolio. Get your hair and makeup done professionally, and wear clothing that represents who you are (or who want to be).
3. Share Amazing and Relevant Content
Sometimes it can be easy to get carried away, and stray off topic, but if you stay relevant and only share content that is interesting to your audience, you cannot go wrong. Whether you created the content or someone else did, it needs to be something your audience is looking for, which motivates them to come back for more.
4. Be Controversial
Okay, okay, you don’t have to go crazy with controversy, but don’t be afraid to go against trends, disagree with gurus, and let people know how you really feel about things without worrying about the world blowing up o you. The important part is to be yourself, and be true to who you are, and don’t worry too much about what others think of you. Just make sure you are able to back your ideas with facts.
5. Respond Relevantly and Timely
Do not use every response as an excuse to talk about your offerings. People do not like to be sold. Instead, make sure that your responses make sense based on the comment or post. Seek to help people instead of hawking your products.
6. Always Under Promise and Over Deliver
In everything you do, build a good reputation, by always giving more than you get. When other people learn about you from others, via testimonials, or just comments about you on social media, it will be remembered.
7. Share Your Opinion Strongly
When you have an opinion about something, back up with facts, (even if it is contrary to what others say and do), as long as it fits in with the narrative that you want to accomplish with your audience, go for it. One small hint, if you run a business site, leave your politics and religion at home. Unless, of course, you cater to that audience.
8. Be a Good Resource to Others
You always want to be of service to others, in everything you do. When you are online, everything you say and do, “lives forever”. Keep that in mind and always be a good resource to your audience.
Standing out online is easy to do if you simply start by being yourself. No one else can do that the way you do. Do not try to be fake it, and don’t try to be something you are not. Don’t brag, and by all means, do not be silent.
